SABER AND GOBLET- traditional Polish art of feasting

To obey the long lasting Polish tradition of fencing and feasting celebrated by our ancestors we hereby leave the halls and chambers of Gniew castle to your disposal what will be done in the following order:

Firstly
The Polish Hussars- the most famous, the most beautiful and for more than hundred years undefeated proud cavalry under the command of Mr. Jarosław Struczyński, Gniew Castle Castellan, lieutenant of The Hussar banner of Mr. Mieczysław Struk, the Pomeranian Province Marshal, will be glad to welcome you on horses with their brothers in arms.

Secondly
The supper feast begins, the noble Castellan will describe the most famous warfare experiences of the Polish hussars, at the same time presenting the traditional Polish way of feasting such as the rules and art of making toasts, singing and gun shooting- all the guests join in.

Thirdly
As everyone is suitable for the art of fencing, the Castellan will organize fencing exercises with the use of Polish saber for four chosen guests dressed up in the proper traditional Polish clothing.

Fourthly
During each feast full of down to earth pleasures, it is easy to put up a fight, what without coincidence is connected with the rampant character of the officers, thus grabbing the saber, taking all the guests for witnesses, they challenge themselves to life and death duel.

Fiftly
Next there is the time for Tradadida game- six guests along with six officers sitting at one table compete in singing and rythmical handling the beer mug.

CASTLE IN GNIEW

Castle Gniew is the most formidable fortress of the Teutonic Knights on the left bank of the Vistula. Built in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries it was home to the commanders of the Teutonic Knights, in times of Polish seat of governors. In the nineteenth century, rebuilt several times (granary, prison), eventually burned down in the Great Fire of 1921.

In the years 1968-1974 Betting Mechanisms Ship "FAMA" in wrath began the first stage of reconstruction of the castle completed laying the floors above the last tier, making the roof structure and its coverage of ceramic tiles. In 1992, the Municipal Council in Gniew in public works began the second stage of reconstruction of the castle consisting of execution ceilings in the east and west wings, an adaptation of the interior, along with the reconstruction of the chapel and land tourist Castle Hill.

Organized since 1992 performances and historical reenactments and tournaments made Gniew Castle is considered one of the main centers promoting the medieval tradition in Poland.
